Early Childhood Music Program Steckman Studio of Music first made a name in 1979 with the development of an early childhood music program which emphasized the benefit of the early musical training for learning potential and self-esteem development.
The Studio has developed a successful curriculum that is founded on the most recent research studies on learning theory and how children learn.

Early Childhood
The Steckman Studio of Music is unique among institutions that specialize in teaching music because of the emphasis placed on Early Childhood Musical Education in a group setting and later transitioning into private lessons. The administration and faculty are keenly aware of the advances made in research on how children learn and what are the stages of early learning. They have taken into account the theories of Montessori, Erickson, Kodaly, Orff, Suzuki, and Alexander. In conclusion, Steckman Studio of Music believes the following:
- At the earliest level, young children learn best with the aid of the parent in class
- The stages of learning go from exposure to participation to conceptualization to performance
- Ear training and sight singing are the keys to music learning
- Instrumental training needs to begin after the ear and the music-concept learning have developed
- All children need basic keyboard skills whether instrumentalist or vocalist.
- Music reading and writing follow the performance

Tunes for Tots (1-2) a parent-child class exploring music and rhythm taught through the Kodaly method of early music education. Fun songs, instruments and games are used to aid children in understanding the fundamentals of music as well as enhance their speech and motor skills.
Tunes for Twos (2-3) age appropriate exploration of music and rhythm, further enhancing the understanding of music while incorporating added development of speech and motor skills.
Musical Discoveries (3-5) encourage
group participation through singing and creative response of music. Children develop motor skills and social skills while learning the concepts of fast and slow, high-low, pitch matching, beat, and rhythm. Taking this class before private instruction greatly improves understanding of musical concepts.
Music Literacy takes the fundamentals learned in the Musical Discoveries class one step further. When students can perform such concepts as the Curwen hand signs, reading and clapping rhythm cards and differentiating between loud & soft, high & low and beat & rhythm, then they are ready for Music Literacy, where they will continue to advanced in these concepts within the framework of reading and writing related musical notations. A perfect pre-instrument class.

| Group Classes (5-12) |
|
KinderKeyboard (5-7) introduces early piano skills while continuing the methods taught in Musical Discoveries. Musical Discoveries is a prerequisite for this class. Teacher also introduces the names of famous piano motifs and composers during the class.
Rhythm Band (5-7) stress the teachings of Carl Orff and feature reading and writing rhythmic motifs in the context of performing percussion instruments. Recognition of band and orchestral instruments is included and creative improvisation (the foundation of Jazz music) is stressed. New and Exciting !!!
Beginning Piano (8-12) focuses on the fundamentals of proper piano technique through scales, exercises and songs. The students gain an appreciation for music and enhance their cooperation skills through group playing and interaction.
Children's Chorus I (5-7) & II (8-12) Chorus singers learn to read and write music while singing traditional American folk songs. Choir I singers learn to develop good pitch and begin to read music. Choir II includes all of the concepts taught in Choir with an additional emphasis on parts singing.
